We strive to raise livestock that not only check off all the boxes wanted for production but who are also built right for the show ring.
We run a small flock of select purebred and crossbred Hampshire sheep. Most of our lambs become project animals for local youth.
We have a small herd of Registered Simmental cattle that provide us with the animals we raise for beef. Follow link below to learn more about our herd and the Simmental breed.
Through out the year we have various products for sale- from project lambs to farm fresh eggs. Follow link below for what we currently have available.
Soggy Acres is a small livestock operation located in Molalla, Oregon. The land we are on has been in the family for 6 generations. We are 3rd generation 4H alumni and one generation FFA alumni.
Our elders started with cattle. Melody grew up raising Registered Simmental cattle and was active in the Junior associations and 4H until she aged out. She had to sell the herd in 1999. In 2009 we purchased a Trinity Farms bred cow from 3H Simmentals. The current herd are all descendants of that Escapade cow.
We added sheep to the farm when attempting to reclaim the soil from blackberry overgrowth. Then we had a small flock of hand-me-down Romneys. Our club lamb flock started with a chance aquisition of a triplet bottle baby from Kaufmans. We still have some ewes that go back to that ewe who lived on the farm for 13 years and produced every year.
We really got back into the youth shows with the sheep when a relative was wanting to raise a pig in FFA. She asked if she could raise it at our place. We worked with her to instead raise a market lamb. Then the next year we picked up a starter flock from Borquez Club Lambs. The purebred Hampshire flock started as Cole’s FFA SAE project. He showed sheep, cattle, and rabbits in both FFA and 4H. In 2023 we added a Dorset Ram to our crossbred ewes to start our Dorset Advantage Flock.
We keep this going because we get so excited placing animals with youth and helping those youth find their potential. Melody and Cole have worked to train many youth on showmanship that has lead many to win buckles. Ribbons fade, buckles tarnish, but the memories and skills that we get to help youth make is priceless.
Thank you for your interest and business.
